WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY
On the occasion of World Environment Day on June 05, 2012, ALMs of Powai Meluha The Fern, Green Team from Rodas Ecotel along with the local community organized a "Tree Plantation Drive" at the sprawling hilly areas of Powai.
At this unique initiative, Mr. Ranjan Karulkar - Chief Horticulturist delivered a lecture to all the community members and shared inputs on the goodness of greening. "With Monsoons approaching it is the right time to plant trees. Each parent can teach their children the idea to plant trees and maintain it throughout the year. It is vital to look after the tree after you have planted one and not just leave it to grow on its own. It needs care and protection," he stated.
The Green team members interacted with the community and experts. Both the teams dug pits, prepared the ground and planted Bondara deciduous, Evergreen Ratnagunj, Gulmohar trees, Laxmi Taru, Black Olive, Khaya the African Mohogany trees, Sita Ashokas, Jammun trees and Bahavas trees among many other indigenous trees.
Later each one was given a sapling to share and distribute to others in the neighborhood.
Ever since my childhood, I have been encouraged to have a tablespoon of this halwa every morning in the winters. I used to look forward to winters because of this morning ritual. This is a rich recipe and one can't have too much of it at one time -but it is delicious nevertheless. It has been my all time favourite winter recipe.
