One of the first things that anyone who has visited the La
Milpa Field Station in Belize will mention is the abundance of rainforest
wildlife. The second thing they will tell you is that this resort reinvests
all tourism profits in the development of the La Milpa Conservation &
Management Area, meaning that the money you spend here goes directly to
conserving over 230,000 acres of rainforests in Belize. One of the larger
eco-resorts in the country, La Milpa offers both cabins and dormitory-style
accommodations. The structures are a mix of wood and thatch and modern
design; all are spacious and comfortable. The station is near the small town
of Gallon Jug at the remote edge of the Programme for Belize Reserve, and
has been a member of the ECOTEL®
collection since 1996.
