Rara Avis, located on the edge of the Braulio Carrillo National Park in Costa Rica is a fabulous eco-tourism experience. Getting to the hotel from town is not easy, but it is extraordinary, accomplished by hiking, horseback riding, or riding on a tractor-trolley the 15 km (10 miles) through the jungle to the site. Once there, you experience the rainforest through a number of guided activities and learn about the wildlife and the environment from the staff, many of whom are students.
